Service Description:
Mission Statement: To serve, honor, and glorify God through work that I am passionate about. He gave me the talent; I am His instrument.
My 24 years of experience includes: copywriting, proofreading, copy editing, and rewriting for novels, advertising, public relations, newsletters, dissertations, magazines, and newspapers.
• My attention to detail is outstanding, and I always double-check items whenever I have the slightest doubt about spelling or factual accuracy.
• I possess exceptional punctuation and grammar skills.
• My aptitude for concise syntax results in readers obtaining the clearest possible understanding of the material.
I have worked closely with book authors, managing editors, and numerous copywriters.
I excel in this work because I am well aware that professional, accurate, and polished copy editing requires more than just having a dictionary at the ready; it involves more than just catching copy errors that don't match the original client-submitted text.
AN EXPERT COPY EDITOR notices inconsistencies within the copy and then investigates and researches until all of the details have been clarified.
AN EXPERT COPY EDITOR has an above average awareness:
It means knowing that panini is the plural of panino, and so there are no such things as paninis.
That caramel goes in your mouth, but Carmel is in California.
And many more ...
AN EXPERT COPY EDITOR knows:
the difference between 'lie' and 'lay' ... and 'lye' and 'lei' (and the proper uses of their past, present, and future tenses)
that when three or more items are listed in a series and the last item is preceded by 'and', 'or', or 'nor', a serial comma should be placed before the conjunction as well as between the other items (red, white, and blue)
where to place commas (based on the rules concerning independent and dependent clauses). (Or when it's stylistically appropriate - such as creating a necessary pause, regardless of the rules.)
where to put the parentheses and the periods in the previous example
why sentence fragments are okay sometimes
when apostrophes are necessary - and where they do and do not belong
that the word 'media' is a plural and should always be treated as such
that a space always precedes and follows an ellipsis ...
when to hyphenate words
how to recognize incorrectly used adjectives ('Cheaper' and 'less expensive' have very different meanings.)
when adverbs should be used rather than adjectives ('Fast'? Or is 'quickly' more appropriate?)
when to use 'fewer' rather than 'less'
when to use 'complement' rather than 'compliment'
when to use 'constitute' rather than 'comprise'
when to use 'continual' rather than 'continuous'
and so many more ...
• I deliver projects that are flawless in regard to spelling, punctuation, grammar, syntax, and factual accuracy.
• Please contact me at wordcraftercopyediting@gmail.com if you have any questions.
