Service Description:
I have a Ph.D. in Humanities, two master's degrees in Humanities, a bachelor’s in English, and over twenty years of experience developing, writing, and editing a wide range of materials. I have worked for a major publishing house and edited textbooks and accompanying ancillary materials that were distributed on a national level; these included fifth-grade and third-grade Social Studies texts and an eighth-grade Earth Sciences teacher’s edition.
As an Associate in Research, Senior Writer/Editor at an applied research center at Florida State University, I wrote and developed online training courses for the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, interactive CD ROMs for the Florida Department of Law Enforcement, educational reports for the Florida Department of Education, assessment items for the Behavior Analyst Exam, technical and scientific reports for the Florida Department of Environmental Protection, and newsletters for both the School-to-Work program at the Department of Education and Florida Telecommunications Rely, Inc. My work also included a variety of brochures and press releases. During my tenure there, I published an article in The Editorial Eye, a nationally distributed newsletter for professional editors and proofreaders. (It’s in my portfolio.)
As the Media Specialist in the Office of Admissions at Florida State University, I wrote recruitment materials for prospective students including newsletters, brochures, an interactive virtual tour, and other various marketing materials.
I have also held two proofreading jobs—one for Associated Catholic Charities in New Orleans in which I proofed all state-mandated reports; my other proofreading job was with Municipal Code Corporation in Tallahassee, Florida where I proofread legal codes for cities across the United States.
I am an experienced academic writer and have extensive knowledge of APA, Chicago Manual of Style, and MLA guidelines. In addition, I am a seasoned researcher; for my dissertation I worked at both the British Library and the archives at Newnham College at Cambridge University. I am also an accomplished internet and database researcher. My 250-page dissertation, which was written in one year (the research took two years), was a compelling biography of a nineteenth-century woman who was one of the first women to attend Cambridge University.
Finally, I also work as a creative college instructor where I develop multimedia presentations that are both informative and entertaining, develop class curriculum, and grade and edit papers.
