Service Description:
After 11-1/2 years as a corporate training designer/developer and classroom instructor, I retired from my job to expand my work possibilities beyond the narrower creative confines of a corporate environment by becoming an independent contractor.

In 1995, I was hired as my employer’s first general computer and software trainer. A large part of my job was writing documentation, developing training, job aids, etc. I contributed articles to the company newsletter, created and posted training materials on the intranet, wrote Help files for new proprietary software, and trained all employees in its use.

Over time, my focus shifted to e-learning, including researching the technology, providing cost/benefit analyses, making recommendations to management, and assisting in implementation. I became an e-learning designer/developer, developed several titles, and trained new designers/developers.

I’ve often been called upon to put both my language and training skills to work. As an avid learner, I like a variety of topics (researching and writing for you allows me to increase my knowledge and abilities). Because I trained and coached employees at all levels, I’m able to write in a variety of styles from executive overviews to a more casual approach with non-management employees. My adaptability continues into my freelance writing.

I graduated, cum laude, Phi Beta Kappa, with a B.F.A in Theater and a concentration in French, and later completed an associates certificate in Graphics & Multimedia. I took additional classes in geology when I worked as a geologic technician for a major oil company and, at the urging of another employer, completed several business management courses.

The additional studies increased my knowledge in several areas, allowing me to write with more authority than I could otherwise have done. And as I mentioned, I'm always open to opportunities to continue learning by researching subjects in which I have limited or no expertise.

In addition to being a capable writer, I’m a very good proofreader and copy editor. If I occasionally rush through writing, it is to leave adequate time to proofread and refine my work. If the article is good but is full of formatting, grammatical, or punctuation errors, it loses credibility.

My interests and hobbies include photography, digital art, web design and graphics. I’m also an avid reader. I am focused on writing and editing rather than design and graphic work because I have a passion for language, and the technology of language rarely changes. The technology in other creative areas is difficult to keep up with and the work is much more time consuming. I accept small design projects occasionally.

I’m happy to have discovered the iFreelance site and look forward to having an opportunity to work with you on your writing and editing projects.

Please feel free to contact me for additional information.

Thank you for your time.
