My name is Tom Motley.  For over 25 years I've been creating underground comic strips and comic books, teaching the art of cartooning, and working in commercial illustration.

While drawing is certainly important, cartooning is ultimately a writer's medium. One must get ahold of the message a client needs to deliver and subordinate all techniques to that. Of course, bringing an idea to visual life requires a host of skills-- staging, composition, figure drawing, expressionism, value organization, rendering-- the list seems endless.  Please check above for my approach to these august problems and then visit my website for more fun things to view and read.

I consider myself a formalist in the sense that many of the most enchanting and effective solutions are found by taking a playful attitude toward the form of presentation.  The time to call on my services might be whenever you need to convey an idea in a way that's fresh, fun, vivid, and clear.
