Description:
I’m a published peer-reviewed scientist and former Smithsonian research fellow with years of industry experience as a scientific/medical writer and editor . . . you might say I’m both right- and left-brained!

-- Specializing in scientific/medical manuscripts for publication and pharmaceutical regulatory documents --

Over the course of 20 years as a manuscript writer and editor, I’ve worked in many scientific and medical disciplines.  I’ve assisted authors in publishing articles in such peer-reviewed medical journals as Eur J Clin Pharmacol, Clin J Pain, Intensive Care Med, J Pain Symptom Manage, Am J Infection Control, and Prostate.  I’ve also edited numerous medical manuscripts for English-as-a-Second-Language (ESL) authors.  In addition, I am the primary author of research papers published in peer-reviewed marine science journals.  I have also peer-reviewed the papers of marine science colleagues, and been a contributing author to an encyclopedia of oceanography.

As a medical writer for pharmaceutical clients, I have a proven track record of drafting and revising clinical development documents, including but not limited to clinical study reports (Phase 1-4), clinical protocols, investigator brochures, abstracts, patient narratives, presentation materials, posters and journal publications in accordance with all applicable guidelines (eg, ICH/GCP) and client SOPs.  Projects have covered a number of therapeutic areas including pulmonary, oncology, cardiovascular, gastroenterology, immunology, pain-management, CNS, orthopedics, anti-infective, and women's health.  Some clients include Merck/Schering Plough, AstraZeneca, Daiichi Sankyo, Teva, Purdue Pharma, Searle/Pharmacia, Otsuka, and Parexel.

My education includes an extensive background in science (PhD in marine science; BA in biology with chemistry minor), as well as in scientific writing (Masters in Technical and Scientific Communication).

Highlights –

- Proven track record of helping authors take projects from statistical output to a polished manuscript ready for journal submission.

- Success in drafting and revising pharmaceutical development documents in accordance with all applicable guidelines (eg, ICH/GCP) and client SOPs.

- Considerable experience in all phases of document development, ie, first draft, editing (copyediting as well as intensive content-level editing), proofreading/QC.

- Strong background in the analytical evaluation of scientific data, including experience with SAS statistical analysis (JMP software application).
