Service Description:
NEWSPAPERS
I am a former newspaper reporter of five years who focused primarily on daily crime and courts coverage. I covered everything from President Bush to Barnum and Bailey's, and some clips are viewable on this site. I worked as managing editor of my college newspaper, overseeing a staff of about 20 writers and editors. The newspaper won several collegiate newspaper design and reporting awards under my direction. I simultaneously worked for a community weekly, where I covered prep sports, local government news, restaurant and movie reviews, and handled photography and copy editing as well. At the Bowling Green Daily News, I earned the Kentucky Press Association's Ongoing Coverage Award for extensive reporting on a capital murder trial involving a dorm fire at Western Kentucky University. In Bowling Green, I covered federal and state-level trials, interviewed inmates, attorneys, officers and crime victims' loved ones, and also handled a few investigative pieces. The newspaper experience helped hone research, fact-checking and interviewing skills.

FREELANCE
I write regularly for Nielsen Business Media Online and Banks.com. I have written for Move.com, Hollywood Goes Green environmental conference in L.A., and four national trade magazines. My magazine experience includes titles focused on the retail trade, rec center management, the construction industry and real estate investing. I have ghostwritten books on fitness and nutrition and personal life management, and I've edited books and magazines. Other writing includes business documents, sales copy, press releases and SEO web content articles. Client reviews are available on this site, and references are available upon request.

ADVERTISING
A year-long stint in direct advertising sales increased familiarity with the psychology of the sale, ROI, the WIIFM factor, etc. Ongoing training courses throughout that year covered the principles of writing effective advertising copy and strong ad design.

SUMMARY
Altogether, I have eight years of experience writing for a living, whether in newspapers, freelance, or both simultaneously.  I have a firm understanding of objective and persuasive writing, copy editing, proofreading, interviewing, researching, and fact-checking.  I am a very diverse writer who enjoys a challenge and would love to help you with your next project.
