Description: I'm looking for a pricing estimate to reverse engineer a sand cast ductile iron automotive rear diff. carrier.

The project would require the production of a solid model of the raw casting and a fully dimensioned and toleranced 2-D drawing for machining. Special attention will need to be paid to the two internal oil passage locations along with the casting wall thickness in these areas. The orientation of the pinion bore versus the bearing seats and caps is also critical.

I would provide a sample part and the tolerances needed for all machined dimensions. I can also supply drawings from similar projects. The drawings would be for reference only and would not have any dimensional data that can be "reused" on this project. The end users logo and part number will also need to be designed into the part.

Access to a layout table, CMM or scanning system is likely a must. You tell me.

This project is for a customer of mine. I provide them with the foundry patterns, castings, machine tooling, machining and assembly of the part. We've successfully launched six similar programs (all of them diff carriers or diff housings). We've used other engineers on previous projects with mixed results. We are looking for a new person to work with. This project is in the estimate stage and will move forward if all of the pricing makes sense.
