T&S Freelance "Books are great, as long as there's lots of Illustrations!"
Category: Traditional Art (Illustration / Painting)
Description: Hello, My name is Chuck G Smith. I have over 18 years experience in freelance art and illustration. Over 30 years of art creation. Have been a graphic designer, but prefer fine arts and illustration.  I have published #1-4 of a six issue Graphic Novel series, which I have written and illustrated. The artwork for this project includes extreme lighting and a dark edged realism with a murder mystery appeal in the storyline.

A dedicated a stay at home dad I have more time for my artwork. My focus has returned to my art since my completion of my Advanced Cartooning class at the Kansas City Art Institute.

Amongst the many private lessons I've taken are airbrush, sculpture, and theater prop design/stage production. I have a total of 9 years experience in T-shirt/label designs professionally in Springfield Missouri and Kansas City and have designs circulating worldwide. These designs range from  UFC fighters/Crooked Nose Fight Gear, Budweiser, Remington gun clothing line, Pepsi, to Maui Thai world competition shirts, plus hundreds of local, regional and nationwide products.

The range of subject matter is varies, from Comic book and Fantasy designs, including the darkest of stark vivid Halloween and horror type themes, to fine art and cartooning.

Larger works include murals ranging from 10' x 10' to an indoor airbrush desert scene of roughly 100' x 12'. This scene was done over the course of only 12 days.

Performing under a deadline is a rush to me rather than a confinement.

I have been blessed enough to have many of my fine art paintings, drawings, and sculptures displayed in public and private gallery showings, because of teachers and artists who saw more in me than I could see in myself. I love what I do and hope to continue for the rest of my life!

Portfolio:
I designed this logo as part of the Los Angeles Zoo and Botanical Gardens' springtime promotion. The Zoo has been instrumental in the California condor recovery efforts.
My acrylic painting of a male and female black-headed weaver is featured on their exhibit sign at the Los Angeles Zoo and Botanical Gardens. The birds are pictured in a pose that accentuates their distinguishing markings.
This pen-and-ink illustration is one of twenty bat portraits I drew to show zoo guests their wide variety of facial characteristics. The graphics are on display at the Los Angeles Zoo and Botanical Gardens' fruit bat exhibit. The drawings were also used in a popular online game called, "Name That Bat!"
This mockingbird is one of several cartoon characters I have designed to go on vehicle wraps. In this bird's case, he went on a recycling program outreach vehicle, with children as the target audience. I produce slick, three-dimensional appearing graphics in Photoshop.
This illustration was part of a series which showed the progression of appearances as California condors mature.
