Category: Legal
Description: I am a former attorney turned freelance writer, highly experienced and skilled at researching, writing, and editing legal writing on any subject, in any format desired, from memoranda for your local court to state and federal appellate court briefs.  Currently, I am working from home, where I am raising two beautiful boys, ages 1 and 3, and I am available for consultation by email or phone at all reasonable hours.

I have more than 25 years of experience writing creatively, writing persuasively as an attorney, writing as a journalist, writing as an editor, writing academically, and writing in a variety of other miscellaneous situations.  My education includes a B.A., summa cum laude, in Liberal Studies, (Kentucky State University, 1991) with a minor in Studio Art; and a Juris Doctor, cum laude (University of Louisville, Brandeis School of Law, 1995). My work experience has varied widely, including my work as a trial lawyer, as a Kentucky District Court trial commissioner, as a writer and researcher for a non-profit, environmental advocacy organization, as a teacher of college freshman Composition courses, and as a freelance researcher and writer.  I have done everything from waiting tables to arguing before the state Supreme Court.

My life experience has been quite diversified as well.  I grew up in a government housing project in rural western Kentucky, attending both college and law school on academic scholarships.  Once upon a time, after law school, I was married to a french man, and I have lived in Paris for extended periods of time, traveling back and forth between France and Louisville, Kentucky.  I returned to rural Kentucky to help provide needed legal services to mostly poor people.  I have practiced privately both in a firm and solo, as a government employee, and as a guardian ad litem for children in child protective cases, and I have received awards for donated legal services.  Although I wrote voluminously as an attorney, I have always enjoyed freelance writing assignments on the side, welcoming the change in pace and thought.

I use Microsoft Word for written work, Adobe Paint Shop Pro for photo editing and other graphics work, and I am proficient with all manner of internet usage, research, and other resources.  I will write on any subject matter, perform quality research, and guarantee fast production of high-quality, detailed writing, produced in appropriate form.  I can easily adopt whatever tone is best suited to accomplish project goals, from completely informal to the most heavily footnoted academic research.  My deadlines are always met, period.  I value my clients, I cultivate return business, and I burn no bridges.  You can expect me to deal with you fairly and honestly.

Thank you for taking time to read my profile.  I would be happy to provide you with additional information upon request.
