When it comes to speaking and teaching, I firmly believe it is a gift. There has to be a certain degree of "natural ability" involved. I am extremely comfortable in front of a big crowd or a small group. I put a lot of thought, research and energy into every assignment. I try my best to make learning fun, informative and relevant. Lecture alone is not the answer. I mix multi-media presentations with audience participation and hands on activities in hopes of leaving a lasting impression and reinforcing key points.
I am a college professor and a motivational speaker with over 20 years of media management, consulting and leadership experience. I hold a Master's degree in Public Relations. I have also taken additional MBA level business and marketing courses. I have experience teaching college level business and communication courses, public speaking courses, writing and literature courses, remedial reading and writing courses. I have taught leadership courses and workshops to non-profit leaders, church leaders and media groups. I have also taught grantwriting and marketing to small business owners and non-profit leaders. I am comfortable speaking to audiences of all sizes and demographics - in or out of a classroom. I have been a featured teacher and speaker at writing conferences nationwide. I have taught seminars at women's conferences and community forums. Additionally, I am a grassroots organizer involved in many diverse pro-social causes and concerns.
My topics and interests vary. I have done extensive research on pop culture, media effects and advertising. I have written curriculum and organized workshops relating to free speech and First Ammendment issues. I have worked as a concert promoter and motivational speaker at numerous music festivals and youth rallies. I am a qualified speech writer. I am also very familiar with and qualified to lead support groups, 12-step counseling, spiritual counseling, addictions and recovery programs, prevention programs, domestic violence and other social issue education and awareness programs.
