Description: Desire Profile:  We are a transcription sub-contractor carrying out work for several transcription companies.  The types of material we transcribe include radio, Television programs, meetings, songs, market research interviews, legal, business, medical, and various other transcriptions.  We are currently recruiting motivated and competent people to assist with our transcription work.  Will our work suit you?  Are you looking for casual typing work that you can fit around another job?  Are you a full-time student looking for a way of earning extra money in the evenings?  Is your command of English good but short of excellent?  You must have a command of English.  We would expect applicants to be able, to explain to us the difference between pairs of words such as the following, without recourse to a dictionary:  Complement, compliment, principle, principal, born, borne, allude, elude, moral, morale, counsel, council, local, locale, stationery, stationary

If you do not already know the difference between these pairs of words it means that your English is not of the required standard, and you are kindly requested not to apply.  You must be familiar with word processing and computers in general, although no in-depth expertise is required.  Minimum typing speed is required; you should be able to transcribe an hour of clear recording in six hours.  You must have a home computer with an Internet connection and Microsoft Word.  You are responsible for maintaining your computer.  We do not reimburse transcribers for computer set up, issues etc.  You are required to have, or purchase, other equipment such as foot pedals and required transcription voice-player software dictionary etc.  You must commit to at least 20 hours of work per week, preferably more.  It will be possible for you to do another full-time job and work with us in the evenings or at weekends.  

Remuneration:  Payment is effectively paid by/per the audio hour of work.  Workflow is irregular and is allocated on an "as and when" basis.  Hourly rates of pay are not fixed across the board for all typists.  You must quote to us the per audio hour rate at which you are willing to work, i.e.  a rate per hour of recording.  The rate at which we are willing to remunerate varies from transcriber to transcriber depending upon experience and ability.  The following is expected of independent contractors:  adherence to deadlines, high accuracy-quality of work, daily availability, a dedicated and accommodating attitude, taking it further than needed and willing to go that extra mile.
