Project
Category: Engineering / Architecture
Subcategory: Electrical Engineering
Description: This is a relatively simple circuit I have working in wired prototype form using relays. The circuit accepts 5 contact closure inputs via 1/4" audio jacks and once any input is sensed, it latches a light on until a reset button is pressed. It also incorporates a  variable (1-20min) timer with pushbutton which allows suspending power to the circuit until the preset time elapses. Each contact closure input must be capable of accepting NO or NC type inputs, selectable by jumpers on the board.

Each contact closure input is also sent off board as a NO contact closing to ground.

This project is to complete the design using ICs and PCB design/layout to reduce the cost of materials and labor for producing in quantity. The deliverables are:

A finished circuit design
A components list by mfg/part no with cost estimate
A PCB layout

Description: I need a prototype of a remote radio control unit for the pocket High Definition camcorder.

The idea is to have the camcorder to power on/off and start/stop recording by the means of remote radio control up to 10-20 meters (not IR).

A circuit board for radio receiver doesn't necessarily need to be integrated into the camcorder though integrating would be great. Attaching of radio receiver should be easy, fast and not require tools or special knowledge. I would prefer to use Kodak's Zi8 HD camcorder or very similar HD pocket camcorder. The remote control should have two LED's to show the current status of the camcorder.
1. First LED is on means camcorder in powered on.
2. Second LED is on means camcorder's recording is on.

Providing the quality of work is satisfactory I'd like to get 25 built and in use as quickly as reasonable.

Description: We are looking for a method to open a relay from up to 6 miles away.  Picture two tractors at any distance up to 6miles apart.  One tractor will remain stationary (and have no operator) while the other will be traveling (with an operator).  We need a way for the operator in the tractor to open a relay in the stationary tractor.

Some environmental and structural conditions:
- temperature: -10F to 100F
- Must withstand tractor vibration
- wireless connection must tolerant barns, trees, houses, etc (ie RF will not work)
- must operate on 12V tractor battery (relay side).  The button or switch for the operator can be battery operated or 12V tractor battery operated.
- Reliability is key
- Durability a must

We are picturing a garage door type device for the operator. But will be open to many device sizes. We are also picturing a box (enclosure) with a connector for relay access and an additional power connector.  The relay must handle up to 40A at up to 28V.

Plan to build one at first with the potential of up to 10 in the future.
