Description: The assignment is to provide a 1200 word article comparing typical "New Age" magazines in America with those now being published in India. Author will prepare a descriptive comparison on the article subjects, editorial slant, apparent audience and special emphasis. Article will compare religious, spiritual, mystical content vis a vis health, diet, relationships content. Comparison of types of advertising appearing in the journals to be included. Author to prepare a chart listing a set of content criteria they develop that appear in both types of journals, in the India type only and in the US type only. Analysis can also be done if the magazine appears to be promoting a particular teacher, or is the product of one organization. Some Google searching on "New Age" would be in order to get a correct grasp of the concept in its various manifestations.

The objective here is to evaluate what "New Age" seems to mean in India as opposed to what it means in the US. One difference that will appear immediately is that the Indian New Age magazines assume their readers are Hindus, even if not pushing Hindu religion as such whereas US New Age magazines skirt the issue of the religion of their readers, being careful not to offend anyone.

The author will need to acquire these three US magazines for the comparison, any issue will do: Yoga Journal, Body and Soul (formerly New Age Journal, but bought by Martha Steward Living, which tells you something...) and Yoga + Joyful Living  (formerly Yoga International, which also tells you something...).
